IGEEA Collaborative Collective continued…

This project was a great way to experience how it would be to work in a group of people, all with different backgrounds and skill sets; we learned how to work together to produce a complete concept and supporting material, as well as how to work independently on our own research and outcomes, more specific to our field of interest.

Admittedly, I found it a little bit hard at first thinking about how to relate our concept and the outcomes we required to textiles (my field of study) as I felt that the project was more media/digital based. However, through some experimentation with embroidery and stitching, I developed some designs for a garment that we used for the photoshoot we did as a group. I also helped with styling and props during the photoshoots. My role as an individual in this project was mainly making the garment and styling for the shoot, although I did also produce a couple of design boards for the group using everyone’s work and one of the final concept boards.

For the final outcome I embroidered some of the ‘unwritten rules’ we were exploring onto the back of a blazer that I had brought from a charity shop. Unfortunately, the project was quite short being only a week long so I didn’t have time to design and make a full garment from scratch although I would have liked to. I had some difficulty with doing the embroidery on my machine as I was attempting to sew letters which is quite tricky because you have to keep twisting the fabric. Initially, I had planned to fill the back of the blazer with text, but because it was so tricky I decided to leave it at a few lines, selecting the ideas that we focused on the most within our collective.igeea photo 1
