With our UCAS applications now sent off to our chosen universities, we were given a week to sort out our portfolios in studio time, with examples and 1-2-1 support available from tutors.
This week was incredibly useful for me as I did not get much help at secondary school when applying for the foundation course therefore my portfolio skills were a bit lacking… Before this week, I had thought of portfolios as single sketchbook pages, just scanned in as they are, however I learned from the examples and tutor feedback that using photoshop to rearrange and merge elements or different pages could produces pages that are much more interesting.
From my 1-2-1 meeting, I gather that my work is of a more or less good standard, however, the layout I chose to present my work was boring. Another suggestion was that I use the facilities at the university more especially by going up to prototyping to get some of my digital prints transferred onto fabric to drape with and use as samples in my book. I was also missing technical drawings from my final line-ups and in addition to this I could make my final line-ups more interesting my using more colour, and possibly collaging them with some of my textile samples. My design development would also look a lot better if I mixed up my drawings with photocopies of samples and draping as well.
