I have survived the developmental stage. This section of the course has been challenging at times, however I have learned alot along the way. The past few months have been especially… interesting, trying to juggle the industry project, portfolio prep, preparing for interviews and assessment and starting the FMP- but I got here in the end.
Firstly, I have been trying to make the transition from a fashion pathway to a more textiles based one, and from assessment I gather that I have been quite successful as the change is clearly evident when looking through my projects.
Although I generally complete all the criteria for a project (research, response, design development…), this is mostly at a pass level with some elements that would be merit. In order to push my work further and achieve a higher grade, I understand that I need much more and much deeper research as well as more design development to produce a project that communicates a strong understanding and investigation into the project brief. During assessment I also expressed how I felt that I have only really got to grips with producing a successful project by the last two projects we did (i.e. Industry: Missoni, Autonomous Substrates)- something which my assessment tutor completely agreed with, as it looked like something had just ‘clicked’ with me in the Industry: Missoni project.
In terms of evaluation, I have been doing quite well through-out developmental, using my blogs to reflect on projects, considering what went well, what didn’t and how I solved problems as well as commenting on feedback from peers and tutors. My assessment tutor commented that I have maintained a strong blog, definitely containing elements worth a merit. I will be continuing to write blog posts during my FMP to be constantly reflecting on my progress and to record and build upon feedback from group and 1-2-1 tutorials we will be receiving each week.
