Over the weekend I started researching into sustainability- I have to admit I was feeling a little bit lost at the start as the subject of sustainability is a very broad area so I was unsure where to start.
So I began by just collecting images from online and magazines that I would associate with sustainability and then went onto research sustainability through news sites and sites such as the national geographic which gave some useful information about current sustainable practices and future possibilities of how we can live in a way that is kinder to the planet.
I also realised that I had just missed an environmental protest in London where students were protesting against climate change- it would have been a great opportunity to gather some primary research, never-the-less, this prompted me to look into other days of importance with regard to the environment. I did abit of research on earth day and world environment day and I also found out that there will be a number of events at the Somerset house during what they are calling ‘earth day season’ so I have booked myself in for a sustainable textiles fair that includes an interactive exhibition, workshops and the chance to speak to current practitioners. Although this is at the end of April, so probably abit late for my materials research, I’m quite excited about it and it will still provide alot of useful information in context of the textiles industry.
