FMP WK 7

I spent today working on the finishes of the garment before going on to incorporate my textiles. The sleeves and bottom of the dress were going to be left with raw edges, however I thought it would be better to hem the neck instead of leaving it raw as it may become too messy. I started to hem the neck by machine but didn’t like the fact that the line of machine stitching was so visible, so I unpicked it then folded the edge over once to create a wide hem which I stitched by hand in small, spread out stitches- this was much more successful as it resulted in a clean finish with no visible stitching.

I also added a zip to the back of the neck to make it easier to get the garment on and off. I chose to stitch the zip in by hand as from previous experience this is much easier and neater than trying to do it on a sewing machine as you have to keep fiddling about with the zipper and trying to keep the distance from the edge even is also quite hard.
