FMP WK 7

With the base garment complete, I could now start incorporating my textiles. The first and main texture I am adding to my garment is a moss texture that I created using simple stitches of wool, but not pulling them all the way. I chose to use two colours and two different types of wool for some contrast; one was a thick, green merino wool that I have used quite alot in previous samples, and the other was a more blue toned, thinner wool. The merino wool is fairly thick so it is abit hard to pull through the material, and it also has a tendency to just break off randomly when its is pulled with too much force due to its soft nature and the structure of it. This was quite frustrating as it kept break, so I realised that I was going to have to be more careful when stitching with the merino wool, going slower and pulling it through more gently. This helped along with using shorter pieces of wool at a time as I was probably being too ambitious trying to use pieces about a metre long.

I am really pleased with the effect this textile technique is adding to my garment as it adds a lovely relief and compliments the fabric structure well. On the downside, it seems to be taking quite a while to complete one section- to be honest, I knew going into this that textile work generally does take a long time and alot of concentration to do, however I did not anticipate that it would take this long. At the end of my first day of adding this texture, I have barely finished one of the sections, but I remain hopeful as there is still a whole week left before the shoot.
